KEEPING THEM HONEST – - LAWMAKERS

It takes some digging to find out exactly what goes on in Washington, D.C.. Our lawmakers have free rein when it comes to what gets spent and how it gets spent.

I know that most of us don’t follow CNN and other channels that disburse offbeat news.  One of the people that I stopped watching because of statements he made after the Haiti earthquake is the 700 Club, hosted by Pat Robertson.  I found out that before the earthquake he had some interesting things to speak on which peaked my interest prior to that time.  After the earthquake Pat Robertson made some comments regarding the Hatian People and their religion, which personnally I did not approve of.

Today I just happened to be listening when he (Pat Robertson), made a few statements about our government spending.  There were some points in his commentary that everyone should know about and should tell the lawmakers from their cities and states that it is high time that they do something about the way they are  spending our money.

ITEM #1:  WASHINGTON SPENDS $25 BILLION ANNUALLY  MAINTAINING UNUSED OR VACANT FEDERAL PROPERTIES.

When it comes to Washington’s spending we cannot blame all of it on President Obama, as the GOP would like to do.  The stimulus spending and the bailout of the automakers and the insurance companies and the banks, but let’s be fair about what happens in D.C..  The Republicans want us to believe that they have nothing to do with the deficit.  If you believe that they did not tack on some of the  pork then, as the man sang about, you can also believe, “I have some Ocean Front Property In Arizona,” for sale.

We as Americans elect the men and women that are in D.C. and after the elections are over, we don’t think about what they are doing to us.  They are giving us a shaft that is bigger than the Washington Monument.

ITEM #2:  SOMEONE REALLY PULLED ONE OVER ON THE AMERICAN PUBLIC AND THEY HAVE US PAYING $2.6 MILLION TO TRAIN PROSTITUTES IN CHINA TO DRINK MORE RESPONSIBLY  ON THE JOB.

Why is it the house and the senate have to be divided and continually fight over what they are going to pass and which way they are going to vote.  I think that everyone that is sent to Washington should have their own mind and vote the way they feel things should go.  There should be no one influencing the vote by big business.

ITEM #3:  HOW DOES IT MAKE YOU FEEL TO FIND OUT THAT THE SMART PEOPLE YOU ELECTED TO TAKE CARE OF THE BUSINESS OF THIS COUNTRY PERMITTED THE PENTAGON TO SPEND $998,798 TO SHIP TWO (2) 19 CENT WASHERS FROM SOUTH CAROLINA TO TEXAS, AND $293,451 TO SEND AN 89 CENT WASHER FROM SOUTH CAROLINA TO FLORIDA.

I don’t know if the lawmakers are stupid or if they just don’t care or if they think the general public is so gullible that they can pull anything on us.  Now we all know that the Postal Service is now and has been operating in the red almost  since day one.  And they have been increasing the cost of mailing letters and packages almost every other year.  Well they are not beyond spending a little money on themselves.  Check out the next item.

ITEM #4:  DINNER AT RUTH’S CHRIS STEAKHOUSE FOR THE DEBT RIDDEN SERVICE COST  $13,500 AND THAT IS FOR ONE DINNER WHICH INCLUDED “OVER 200 APPETIZERS AND OVER $3000 ON ALCOHOL, INCLUDING MORE THAN 40 BOTTLES OF WINE COSTING MORE THAN $50.00 EACH AND BRAND NAME LIQUOR SUCH AS COURVOISIER, BELVEDERE AND JOHNNY WALKER GOLD.”  THIS TOTAL WAS FOR 81 GUEST WHO CONSUMED AN AVERAGE OF $167.00 WORTH OF FOOD AND DRINK APIECE.

Can we understand why they are operating in the red?

THIS CRAZY CITY AND IT’S PEOPLE

Today there were two things that people have been waiting for, for years. The city has been in need of these two things because the city without them has been like a void.

It has been astounding how two needed things can happen on the same day.  Well not reall on the same day.  The city of New Orleans has needed a new mayor for only eight years.  I say it has needed a new or different mayor for eight years because it never should have had Mayor Nagin in the first place.  He looked so rosey when first elected but shortly after being elected the rose lost all of it’s luster.  Controversy raised it’s ugly head and pandemonium struck the city.

The city council was pitted against the mayor’s office and mass confusion set in, creating a monster that no one knew what to do with.

The all of a sudden the mayor became almost nonexistent.  His travels took him to the four corners of the globe (ieuat the expense of  the city).  People did what they had a right to do.  They complained loud and hard.  And then they went to the polls and pushed little levers.  They listen to what the candidates had to say and then they made what they consider a wise choice.  They did this time what they should have done during the last election.  They voted with their minds and not with the color of their skin.

I don’t have to call any names, you know as well as I what the people of New Orleans did.  They vote in Mr. Mitch Landrieu, the Lieutenant Governor for the state of Louisiana.  This is the first time a white man has been elected Mayor since 1978.  I was in New Orleans when Ray Nagin was elected the first time and there was so great hope for someone with the ability and knowledge to run the city.  But that was not to be.  The people had such high hopes and they got garbage. The people need someone that will completely revamp the city government and work with the city council, to get the city moving again.

Now for the second thing.  Something that we have been wishing for for over forty years.  A team to go to the Super Bowl and WIN.  Today that win was placed upon us and we will gladly bare the borden of carrying that glow all the way until next year.

We had a problem with our sideline coaches (the one that have no coaching experience at all), saying Headcoach Sean Peyton should not had rested the number one players the last three games of the regular season.  That well needed rest proved to be the right thing to do in the playoff game and mostly for the Superbowl.  When you have a lock on the playoff game, give your first team players a rest.  And when you know you are in the Superbowl, don’t beat your players to death in practice.   Practice and study the moves of your opponent and then come out and be victorious.  He did just that.

The Saints played a masterful game today.  They did not rush anything.  The first two quarters they were in a cruise mode, doing what they had to do to keep the game in reach for them.  I don’t know what went on in the locker room during halftime and don’t really care.  They did what they had to do and came out ready.  They dropped the hammer on the Colts from the second half kickoff with an onside kick and recovery to the final 78 yard scoring run, to beat the Colts 31 to 17.

Now the main problem is…….   How do the powers that be get those partying fools down off cloud nine and back to work.  It is bad enough getting them to go to work on a regular Monday, but after 44 years and winning the Superbowl, a party in the Big Easy could possibly last a whole month.  And with Crawfish season just starting, heaven help the city.  I can smell the boiling water now:  POTATOES, LEMONS, GARLIC, ONIONS, THE BURNERS ROARING,  ZATERAIN CRAB BOIL, AND PLENTY OF NEWSPAPER ON THE TABLE.  STUFF YOURSELVES, LICK YOUR FINGERS, DRINK ANOTHER BEER, AND DANCE YOUR BUTTS OFF.  HAVE FUN, LIVE IF UP.  KEEP GOING “WAIT UNTIL NEXT YEAR”      GEAUX SAINTS.   WHO DAT ?
